These homemade gyros are just as good as any you’ll find in a Greek restaurant, and the recipe is simple to follow. The Bald Chef couldn’t find a spit to cook the gyros on, so he came up with the idea of making them in his oven.

Ingredients:

1 red onion

1 tsp dried rosemary

1 tsp Italian parsley

4 cloves of garlic

1 tsp sea salt

1 lb ground lamb

1 lb ground beef

1/4 English cucumber, shredded and seeded

6 oz no-fat plain Greek yogurt

1/2 lemon, juiced

1 tsp sea salt

1 tsp black pepper

1/2 tsp minced garlic

Cooking Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a food processor, pulse together the red onion, rosemary, Italian parsley, garlic, and sea salt.
  3. Add the ground lamb and beef to the food processor and pulse until it forms a paste.
  4. Spread the paste on a baking sheet and cook for 30 minutes.
  5. While the gyro meat is cooking, make the tzatziki sauce. In a bowl, combine the shredded cucumber, Greek yogurt, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and minced garlic. Set aside.
  6. Take the gyro meat out of the oven and let it cool.
  7. Turn on the broil in your oven and place the gyro meat on a baking sheet, broil the gyro meat until it has a nice crust on it.
  8. In a separate pan, toast the pita bread.
  9. Assemble the gyros by spreading tzatziki sauce on the pita bread and adding gyro meat, lettuce, and red onion.
  10. Roll the pita and enjoy!

Note: You can adjust the number of ingredients according to your preference.
